Frankfurt is often seen as the great financial centre and highly commercialised business hub of Germany - which of course it is. But this is not by any means the whole story. Tradition remains important residents of Frankfurt, and the restored historic quarter of the city attests to a continued connection with the roots of German culture and traditional life. Frankfurt has always played an important role in European history, and there has been a Christmas Market in Frankfurt for over 600 years, and thus is one of Germany’s oldest. It is known also to be one of the most popular Christmas markets in Europe.

A big plus for visitors from outside Germany the Frankfurt Christmas Market is the ease of access - it is only 15 minutes away from Frankfurt airport, enjoying the easiest of connections.

Frankfurt truly is the city on the Main, dominated by the river, with many bridges which are all unique in character. The Frankfurt Christmas Market is located on the Römerberg square, Paulsplatz and Mainkai quay. It offers up to 200 stalls with arts, crafts and seasonal food and drink. A short stroll across the market brings you the fine aroma of baked apples, roasted nuts, gingerbread and mulled wine. A 30-metre high Christmas tree is the focus for a wide range of entertainment. These include concerts, fanfares from the balcony of St. Nicholas's Church and the church bells themselves. There is also guided themed tour.
