Wandering through Stuttgart's city centre, visitors can take a journey back through snapshots of the history of architecture. Masterpieces such as the medieval Old Palace, the baroque New Palace, the beautiful Art Nouveau market hall and the Bauhaus-style Weissenhof housing estate give the city its unique style.
The main attraction amongst the choice of Christmas Markets in Stuttgart, is the Stuttgart Christmas Market itself, set in the heart of town in front of the Old Palace. With over 280 beautifully decorated stalls this is not only one of the oldest, but one of the largest and most attractive Christmas markets in Germany, and perhaps the whole continent. A feature not to miss is the daily concerts of Christmas music in the Renaissance inner courtyard of the Old Palace.
The market has festive illuminations, wonderful scents of cinnamon and vanilla, wooden pavilions and booths, adorned with angels, conifer branches and Christmas ornaments. The "Wintertraum" winter wonderland on Palace Square creates a nostalgic Christmas feel, which has a perennial appeal to visitors from all over the world. And all around the Old Palace, on Schiller Square and in the marketplace, there is an overwhelming range of Christmas items and gifts on sale. Amongst the culinary delights, you can choose between roasted chestnuts, gingerbread, candied almonds, Swabian specialities, fried sausages and mulled wine, whilst making your choice of gifts amongst the fine array on offer.
